Cyclones need warm water to form, meaning they occur mainly in the world’s
tropics, at around 5-20˚ North or South of the Equator. In Australia, this
means cyclones take place mainly in the Northern part of the country, often in
the Gulf of Carpentaria or the Coral Sea
